Fung Wong axes 12 flights to Taiwan

About 12 flights between Hong Kong and Taiwan have been cancelled and five are delayed as a powerful typhoon Fung Wong strikes Taiwan. Up to 1 pm, the cancellations include six flights between Hong Kong and Kaohsiung, four flights between Hong Kong and Taipei, and two flights between Hong Kong and Taichung.

Airbus delivers A380 superjumbo to Emirates Airlines, receives order for 60 other planes

HAMBURG, Germany: Emirates Airlines took delivery Monday of the first of 58 Airbus A380 superjumbo planes it has ordered and announced it had signed up to buy another 60 aircraft from the European plane builder. The report came as the airline received the A380 in an elaborate hand-off ceremony in northern Germany. Dubai-based Emirates announced the deal to buy 30 A330-300s and 30 A350-XWB widebody passenger planes as part of its plans to expand its growing international network. Financial terms of the order or a delivery schedule were not revealed.

QANTAS is checking oxygen supply cylinders on all its Boeing 747s as Australian investigators focus on a cylinder missing from the jet that had a three-metre hole blasted in its fuselage over the South China Sea on Friday.

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Qantas was ordered on Sunday to check all oxygen bottles on its fleet of Boeing 747s after investigators said an exploding oxygen bottle might have ripped a hole in a Qantas 747, forcing it to make an emergency landing at Manila.

Air France avoids disabled passengers

A well-known magazine, Emerging Horizons, has accused Air France for not making arrangements to suit disabled passengers. In its summer issue the magazine called Air France Germ of the Year in its research on travel industry. It was based on personal experience of one of its editors who is paraplegic. The magazine found that Air France was not doing enough to care for people with disabilities to have a seamless travel experience. The carrier was simply ignoring the requirements of people with less mobility and at times, even refused to allow such passengers on its flights.

Incident: Air France A321 over Alps on Jul 14th 2008, cracked windshield

An Air France Airbus A321, registration F-GTAE performing flight AF1732 from Paris Charles de Gaulle (France) to Athens (Greece), returned to Paris Charles de Gaulle, when a cockpit window cracked more than one hour into the flight. The crew decided to return to Paris, where a replacement aircraft, registration F-GTAD, resumed the flight arriving at Athens with a delay of close to 5 hours.

Malev drops transatlantic flights

Malev Hungarian Airlines has decided to cancel its two transatlantic routes and starting later this year will concentrate instead on expanding its service within Europe. Hungary’s national airline will stop offering regularly-scheduled flights from Budapest to New York as of October 25th, 2008, while the last direct flight from the Hungarian capital to Toronto, Canada’s financial centre, will depart on September 21st.
