JAL, as the airline is known, plans to reduce the workforce of the company and its consolidated subsidiaries to about 35,000, and cut the number of subsidiaries to around 50 from 120 as of the end of March this year, the report said.

Japan Air and its subsidiary, Japan Air Commuter Co., canceled 12 flights affecting 1,140 passengers, Tokyo-based spokeswoman Yuko Takahashi said by telephone today. All Nippon Air canceled six flights, affecting about 1,100 people, the airline said in a faxed statement
